Food and Feed Safety

Biotechnology has been used for more than a decade to improve the world’s food supply.

The safety of biotechnology-enhanced crops, such as Roundup Ready® crops, has been established through comprehensive scientific studies that are reviewed by national and international regulatory authorities and their scientific advisers. These studies demonstrate that biotech traits have not changed the food, feed or environmental safety of the approved crop products. Additionally, independent scientific analysis conducted by an internationally recognized laboratory utilizing state-of-the-art scientific methods showed that the sugar from Roundup Ready sugar beets is identical to the sugar from comparably grown conventional (non-Roundup Ready) sugar beets.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) consultation on Roundup Ready sugar beets confirmed that Roundup Ready sugar beets and end-products derived from those sugar beets are substantially equivalent to, and as safe and nutritious as, the food and feed products derived from today’s conventional sugar beets. Additionally, regulatory agencies in key export markets have reviewed Roundup Ready sugar beets and confirmed the same information.
